My motto in clinical practice is “Connect the Symptoms” to “Restore Health”
Remember to look at your child’s symptoms and ask “WHY”. This is how you will connect their symptoms to what needs the extra support in their body. Giving the right support will “restore health”.
“Why? Is their body making mucous? Why is their body spitting out their food? …..

We started our discussion Wednesday morning with the topic boosting the immune system.

1)Echinacea is a great herb that is well documented to increase the strength of the immune system and decrease illness time when used at the onset of symptoms. Use Echinacea for 10 day periods once a month to boost the immune system. I like to do the back to school time, Christmas and early spring flu season. Make sure you buy a “standardized” herbal product. As a reminder, I wouldn’t choose an herb for a child under the age of one. Stick to homeopathy for the sweet babies.

2) Vitamin C packets can be useful for helping keep the vitamin and mineral balance while you are sick. These would not be my top pick for immune boosting agents. Studies support Echinacea over vitamin C for effectiveness.

3) Probiotic. Adding a probiotic is one of the best things you can do to support your child’s overall immune system. This is especially true if your child has been on antibiotics. Look for multiple strains of bacteria in the product.

We also discussed mucous.
1)Clear mucous is the first and earliest sign of stress on the body’s sinuses. Address it right away with a homeopathic cell salt “natrum mur”. This is incredibly safe for all ages. I use 2 under the tongue for infants, 4 for toddlers and young kids, 6 for older kids and adults. Do this 3-4 times a day. The tablets melt in the mouth very easily.

2)Yellow mucous is a sign that the mucous is not moving very well. Use the cell salt “kali mur” with the above dosages. Make sure to help the mucous move out of the sinuses with the help of a netti pot or bulb. I add ½ a dropper of Colloidal Silver in the bulb to have an antibacterial effect.

3)Green mucous- get your pediatrician on board. The mucous is infected. Keep trying to move it out with the above flushing techniques.

Add a TBS of apple cider vinegar to your humidifier to help break up congestion. – this remedy works great! It is a favorite of anyone who tries it.

Coughs- try the acupuncture point on your wrist bone, just down from your thumb to knock out coughs that happen between 3-5 am. Try an essential oil or Vapo Rub on the chest.
Clinical research is showing that suppressing a cough with an over the counter cough suppressant is shown to actually cause more problems. I recommend the natural alternatives like the honey based throat syrups and homeopathic cough remedies.

For Ear infections:
Remember that the ear infection is a sign of too much mucous that is hanging around for too long.
When pain is present try making an all natural soothing ear oil. Equal parts olive oil and garlic at room temperature dropped into the ear canal.

Wishing you- health and hapiness!
